Pennsylvania

The BIL will provide nearly double the funding for wastewater infrastructure that the state has spent in the last 7 years - critical funds for improvement.

Pennsylvania has a large and complex infrastructure system, including highways, bridges, airports, and waterways. The state's infrastructure is critical to its economy, with many businesses relying on transportation networks to move goods and people.

The American Society of Civil Engineers gave Pennsylvania a C- on its infrastructure report card. This means that the state's infrastructure is in poor condition and requires significant investment to address the existing deficiencies.

One area of particular concern is Pennsylvania's bridges. According to the Federal Highway Administration, the state has the third-largest number of structurally deficient bridges in the country, with over 3,400 bridges in need of repair or replacement. The state also has the highest percentage of rural bridges in poor condition, with over 20% of these bridges rated as structurally deficient.

Pennsylvania's highways also face significant challenges. The ASCE reports that 44% of the state's major roads are in poor or mediocre condition, resulting in increased maintenance costs for drivers and businesses.

In addition to transportation infrastructure, Pennsylvania also faces challenges in other areas. The state's drinking water and wastewater systems are in need of significant investment, with the ASCE giving both systems a grade of D+.

Overall, Pennsylvania's infrastructure faces significant challenges, and addressing these issues will require significant investment and policy changes. However, with the right approach, the state can improve its infrastructure and support its economy for years to come.
